How to Paint a Candle, Flame and Fire

Step 1. Begin by painting a simple sillhouette of a candle and small wick using burnt umber.

Step 2. Continue by using a small amount of titanium white and zinc yellow and paint the beginnings of the inner part of the flame. Paint a little into the wick top also.

 
 

Step 3. Add to the outer edges of the flame as shown using cadmium yellow light. Paint a little of this into the wick top also.

 

Step 4. Add body to the flame using a mix of cadmium yellow light plus a touch of cadmium orange to warm the color. This begins to move the color towards warmer oranges and reds.
