Drawing Exercise Step 1
Begin
the exercise by using an HB pencil and drawing the basic shapes
of the books. Keep the lines fairly light so they won't be difficult
to cover with added drawing and shading.
Notice how simple the first drawing
is. The line angles indicate the shapes of the books, angles of
pages and the way they are stacked. This planning step is very
important as these basics will control the lights and shadows.
Step2
In this step, add the chain noting
the way it drapes from the book to the table. Draw guidelines
for the book content areas and suggest the two mountain tops.

Step3
Use the same HB pencil and sketch in
the two main elipses that make up the open pocket watch. Indicate
smaller elipses for the face and inside cover. Lightly indicate
the hand positions.
